Class Spotlight: You've heard of and likely even have clients with joint hypermobility. But have you heard of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS)? There are 13 types of EDS but hypermobile EDS is the most common form. While once thought of as rare, there is mounting evidence that far more of us have it than previously thought so chances are you have a client or two dealing with it. It's similar to Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) but has some distinct differences and both have special considerations when it comes to movement and exercise. A condition called POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is a common coexisting condition that you may have seen more about in the news lately as it is something also triggered by viruses and is important to understand when working with individuals with it. So even if EDS isn't present, POTS might be. Lori, who has hEDS and POTS herself has included a informational webinar to learn a little more about how these conditions may present in the body in front of you and how you can help them have a positive relationship with movement. This population is underserved and often misunderstood, and Lori would like to help raise awareness so more folks with this condition can feel supported and heard.
To complement this material, Lori has offered a movement class (Class Spotlight) to put what you learn on the webinar into practice. We will be expanding on the great information presented by Jessica Valant in April and you'll take away valuable knowledge and resources from both sessions. Those with hypermobile EDS often have challenges with balance, proprioception, stability and posture. Our pre/post natal and active aging clients also deal with similar challenges so the information you will gain from this will be applicable for those populations as well.
